Jason Hughes’ Story

Posted on Nov 12, 2014 by in Story |

My name, is Jay Hughes, I am 39 years old, and I have had epilepsy for 22 years this week!

I will be 40 next Friday.  It all happened on November 5th 1992, at 10.14am, and it was a Thursday – I remember that.

It was just a normal day working as a roofing laborer in St. Annes, just outside Blackpool. I stepped off the roof on to the scaffolding, and seconds later it gave way with me on it! I was 35ft up and the next thing I remember is waking up on the grass in the garden. I thought I could hear running water, but it turned out to be blood coming out the back of my head.

I was in the hospital for a long time. I was treated VERY well at Blackpool & Preston Hospitals. I have my late dad to thank for getting through this with me for many years, and saving my life when I had a tonic-clonic in the bath. I had stopped breathing as well – He knew his stuff!

My story goes to show that you can have a normal life. I have been in amateur football for 19 seasons now, and am VERY well known.
