Briana Seymore’s Story

Posted on Nov 6, 2014 by in Story | 2 comments

I had my first seizure at ten years old while at a birthday party.

I never knew the course my life would take after having that for seizure. My family and I knew virtually nothing about epilepsy until I was diagnosed three years ago.

When they asked us to come in for a routine EEG, we thought it would be Normal, and we would go on our way and never hear anything about it again.

That was not the case.

The EEG was abnormal and the first, as well as the second, neurologist that we saw felt like medication was the only way to go. I made a two year commitment. The first year was very difficult; I had several breakthrough seizures and it terrified both me and my entire family. The last two years have been great, I have felt better and for the last two weeks have been off medication altogether. I feel like a brand-new person. The medication had so many side effects it was very difficult for me and my parents, it was hard for me to remember things and to deal with stress. I had dark circles under my eyes and always felt like I was in a daze. I know my battle with epilepsy is not over I’m proud to say that I am seizure free for the last two heaters and medication free for the last two weeks. I hope I will continue my success with fighting Epilepsy.
