Rebecca Rees’ Story
I had my first seizure when I was 13 on a camping trip.
The ER doctor said I was dehydrated and I should be fine, but I had 3 more that night and I don’t remember much after that.
I got a new “special” doctor and had to take medication. If that wasn’t scary enough, I was given a giant list of things I couldn’t have or do and for a long time I just didn’t WANT to do anything because I was afraid of hurting myself or others if I had a seizure. Finally when I was a senior in high school I threw caution out the window and decided to actually do everything I had read about and saw my friends doing and nothing bad happened. Sure I had an episode every now and then but no one freaked out the way I thought they would or shun me because of it.
I am now the proud mommy of a 3 year old and 1 year old and have been married for 4 years to my amazing Marine. Best of all I have been seizure free for 14 months and I overcame my fear of living life because of my seizures and I’m now enjoying every minute of it.
